Obituary of Norman Harvey Bird

BIRD, Norman Harvey, 81, of Wolfville passed away on Thursday, October
15, 2015 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 7th,
1934, he was the son to the late John and Lilah (Smith) Bird. Left with
fond and loving memories are his sons, David (Avril), Canaan; Steven,
Halifax; Robert (Leanna) Hantsport; brother John, Ontario. His pride and
joy, was his four grandchildren Anita, Keighan, Kate and Grace. Norman
was predeceased by wife Mary (2012) of 49 years. Norman was a member of
the Lions Club, Stamp Club, on the Adopt-a-Highway Committee and
volunteered with the VON. Norman lived several different parts of the
country in his younger years and had several different occupations.
Until he settled in his home town of Wolfville, to raise his family and
worked for Hostess Foods for over 25 years, where he made several
lifetime friends. Even after retirement, he continued to work at
several other jobs including Carquest and Elderkin's Farm. Norman's true
passion and what he was best known for was his bee keeping, which he
continued till the very end. He also loved selling his honey and his
wood working creations at the Wolfville and Kentville Farm Markets where
he was well known as the "Bee Man". Cremation has taken place. A
visitation will be held at the Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street,
on Tuesday October 20th, 2015 from 6:30-8:30p.m. A Memorial Service will
be held on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015 at 2:00p.m. at the St. John's
Anglican Church, Wolfville, Archdeacon Sandra Fyfe officiating. Reception
to follow at the Church. Burial in Church cemetery. Donations in Norman's
memory may be made to the St. John's Anglican Church Memorial Garden or
to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to
