Copeman, Derek Stanley Jim 85, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away suddenly from a brief illness Monday June 29, 2015 at Valley Regional Hospital with family at his side. Born March 21, 1930 London England, he was the only child of the late Lucy (Stevens) and Stanley Copeman. He is preceded by his late wife Patricia (Newton) and survived by son Michael, Markdale ON; daughters Susan Stainton (Terry), Dartmouth; Jill McNeil (Larry) Dartmouth; beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Michael (Jenn), Lawrence (Erica), Heather; great grandchildren, Jordan Stainton, Ava and Aiden McNeil; son in law, David Stainton; in laws Brian and Gloria Lax and family, England. As a lad Jim entered The Ganges Naval Academy, London England, then proudly served in the Royal Navy before emigrating with his family to Canada in 1957 to join the Royal Canadian Navy, retired in 1977. Jim remained close with his beloved Ganges mates and over the years they enjoyed many reunions in various countries. Jim enjoyed a quiet life and until recently spent time in his garden with the various dogs at his side and was always happy making beer and wine. Jim loved everything British. He looked forward each day to the newspaper crosswords and cryptograms because, he would say, it keeps the brain sharp. And it did. Jim was well loved by family and friends and will be forever missed. Special thanks to dear friend and neighbour Sharon Kilcup and the Carefore Staff who looked after him. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at Wyndholme Christian Church, Dartmouth, Tuesday July 7th 2015 at 11:00 am. Charitable contributions may be made to SPCA Kings Co., or charity of choice.
