Obituary of Earl Hiltz
Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HILTZ, Earl Margeson Age 82, of New Ross, passed away at home on Monday, April 13, 2015. Born on March 9, 1933, Earl was raised in the Forties Settlement by his grandparents, Nathan and Agnes (Bezanson) Hiltz, and much loved by his mother, Vivian Eliza (Hiltz) Somers. Left to mourn is his partner, Mavis Russell, New Ross; daughter, Brenda (Darell) Keddy, Whitecourt, AB; son, Gordon Hiltz (Teresa Workman), Forties; and their mother, Lorraine (Hughes) Hiltz; sister, Mary Somers, Halifax; grandchildren, Lyle Keddy, Edmonton, AB; Ellen and Wilson Hiltz, Forties; and Mavis’ children, Kerry, Kendra, Jamie, Cameron, Joette and their families - all of New Ross. He was predeceased by his mother, Vivian. Earl worked in the woods and drove a tractor trailer in his early years. He was a valued employee at Aberdeen’s Paving Ltd., operating a pay loader for many years. In his late fifties, he worked for Sidney Hiltz, driving a dump truck until he was almost 80, often with Coco the dog at his side. In his final year of work, he received a safety award from the province for using his skill at handling his truck to avoid a serious accident on Highway 103. Earl shared a special bond with his son, Gordon. He adored, and was immensely proud of his grandchildren, Lyle, Ellen and Wilson. He looked forward each week to talking to his daughter, Brenda and anticipated her visits home. Earl treasured Mavis and loved her children and grandchildren, always finding a spot on his lap for the little ones. He was active every day – often working dawn to dusk. He enjoyed the little things: a day in the woods collecting brush, cutting firewood, petting his cats. He smiled often. Earl’s life was full. He was happy. He was loved. A Celebration of Earl’s life will be held on Friday, April 17 at the Forties Community Centre from 7 – 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Earl’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Association or the New Ross Fire Department. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home (New Ross Funeral Chapel) (902) 689-2961.
