TURNER, Leon Whylie – age 85 of New Ross, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on February 12, 2015. Born in New Ross, he was the son of the late Lawson and Margaret (Roast) Turner.
Earlier in life, Leon worked as a carpenter, and woods worker. Leon was employed at Ross Farm Museum as a cooper and as an interpreter for 18 years, and was a member of the Nova Scotia Christmas Tree Producers Association. He faithfully attended variety shows throughout the Annapolis Valley and the South Shore. He had a love of vegetable gardening, tree fruit production and growing Christmas trees, but his true passion has always been his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Norma (Lantz); sons Bruce, Fraxville Rd., New Ross; Craig (Cynthia) Fraxville Rd., New Ross; daughters Dianne Fisher, Western Shore; Ardith (Neil) Swinimer, Beech Hill, Gold River; sister Marguerite (Clifton) Hiltz, Fraxville Rd., New Ross; also 11 grandchildren - Derek Fisher, Patrick Fisher, Kelly Fisher, Kaitlyn Turner, Kelsey Turner, Schelene McGinnis, Heather Swinimer, Ryan Turner, Cory Swinimer, Erin Swinimer, Andrew Swinimer; and 4 great grandchildren - Payden Fisher, Owen Swinimer, Saege Veinot, and Jade Kaizer. Leon was predeceased by his brother Francis.
A Visitation for Leon will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 7pm – 9pm at the Forties Community Centre. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2pm at the St. Augustine Anglican Church,The Forties, with Rev. Judi officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Leon may be made to St. Augustine Anglican Church, or a charity of one’s choice.
