Obituary of Freda Crosby
Please share a memory of Freda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Freda Leota Crosby (Ring) was born in Waldec, NS, on November 20, 1929. She was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Ring (Dukeshire), and the beloved wife to Donald Crosby for 64 years. She was an at-home mother raising three children, Allan Crosby (Jill), Steven (Karen Parker) and Sandra (Jacob Vanderzwaag). Prior to that, she taught school in a one room school house in Brickton, N.S. for four years. Freda was a good curler and it came very naturally to her. She was lucky enough to be chosen to play for the Scott Tournament of Hearts. Other hobbies of hers included reading and baking (her bread was the best!). She loved to entertain guests and was a wonderful hostess. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Freda was a great gardener and enjoyed doing her preserves. She also loved to attend auctions with Donald and collected lovely antique furniture, which they still have today. Donald and Freda built their own cottage in Malagash and spent 18 years enjoying their home on the ocean, until one day a summer home in Hubbards came up for sale next to their son, Steven. They purchased it and sold their Malagash cottage. They still have their Hubbards summer home today. Freda was a loving grandmother to Jennie Crosby-Denny (Dave), Gregory Crosby (Anna), Keltie Hawkins (Michelle Hierlihy), Katherine Crosby (Archie Rankin), Adam Hawkins (Billee) and Derek Hawkins. She was fortunate enough to get to know her six great grandchildren, Georgia and Theo Denny, Isabella and Hayden Crosby and Lauchlan and Zoe Hawkins. The sixth, Hayden, was born two days before she passed away on November 28, 2014. Freda will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Cremation has taken place and by request family flowers only. Donations may be made to the VON Halifax. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Coldbrook (902)679-2822.
