Obituary of Mary Margaret Robertson
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Margaret Robertson, age 74 of Port Williams, Kings County passed away June 22nd at VRH surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. Robertson and Margaret (MacPhee) Robertson. She is survived by her son
Douglas St. Laurent and daughter in law Katherine Roy, of Lunenburg Co., and daughter Danielle (St. Laurent) and son in law Michael Henri of Port Williams. She is also survived by her sister Pauline Robertson, (Sydney Mines) and brother Donnie Robertson of Ottawa. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Sarah, Mathew, Grace and Daniel Henri of Port Williams, and Mitchell and Kyle St. Laurent from Nunavuit. She worked her entire adult life, which took her across Canada working and raising her family, retiring from Halifax Developments in 1993 when she moved to the Valley to be closer to her grandchildren. She was active in the community of Tideways in Wolfville where she sat on the financial committee and worked in the library, she also volunteered her time with the book keeping for the Schizophrenia Society in Kentville. She volunteered for many years with the Valley Regional Hospital, and Fidelis House well into her illness. She was a very active and present Nanny in the lives of her grandchildren going to their school events, violin concerts and of course hockey games. They will miss her dearly but know their Nanny will be watching over them always. She was a wonderful travelling partner and will be missed by her daughter and sister for those great Panama and Italian vacations, we never made it to France as she had wanted, but well take her there in spirit some day. Her fondest times were summer weekends spent at the bungalow in Island View playing 45s and boat rides to Home Island. Our mother, sister, grandmother and friend will be taken home to her beloved Cape Breton to rest, as was her wish.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful healthcare providers that helped Mom on her journey through this relentless illness, especially Dr. Craig White and Tracey, Dr. Karen Burch and the palliative care team, the nursing staff at Valley Regional Hospital and the support given through the ALS Clinic staff in Halifax and the ALS Society. The care provided was outstanding, professional and most importantly compassionate and caring. Finally we would like to thank our friends and colleagues who gave us so much support. No gesture however small went unnoticed and was appreciated more than we can express.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Wolfville Chapel (902-542-4656). There will be no visitation by family request. Funeral mass will take place on Friday June 27th at 2:00pm,
