Please share a memory of Ida to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorman, Ida Irene (Renee) - Peacefully passed away in Falmouth at the Windsor Elms Village on January 18, 2014, surrounded by loving family in her 94th year.
Renee was born in Smith Falls, Ont., on November 19, 1919 and was married to the love of her life for 59 years, the predeceased Frank Dorman.
Frank and Renee, together, achieved many great things as entrepreneurs, from founding one of the first Ice Delivery Businesses in Smith Falls, Ont., to managing hotels, running corner stores and a restaurant. Always together, they worked endlessly in love, side by side. Renee loved to share stories of her travels with her husband throughout Canada and the US. She was a talented historian, the letters Renee wrote to her loved ones were both detailed and personal, her presence was felt in every letter she wrote. She was a former resident of Manotick and Ottawa, Ont., spending many winters in Florida where her and Frank were known as fierce competitors in the Shuffleboard tournaments with many championship trophies to show for it. Renee was fondly known to everyone as "Nanny" and proudly spoke of the special bonds she held with each and every one of her family members. In 2001, Renee moved to Falmouth, Nova Scotia, with her daughter and son-in-law where she, as an animal lover, held a special place in her heart for all their loving pets. Nanny had a way of lighting up any room she entered with her feisty jokes and strong yet loving personality, her ability to put a smile on anyones face and of course her famous coconut cream pie.
Renee was a loving mother to her beautiful daughter Diane Sanford and son-in-law Jesse Sanford. She is also survived by her grandsons Rod (Lisa) and Chris (Tia), great granddaughters Jessica (Cameron), Melissa, Natasha and Tricia, great grandson Jessie and great great granddaughter Priscilla. Renee is predeceased by her brothers Joe, Charlie and sisters Sadie, Ferrolie, Edna and is survived by her sister Bertha.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a small family gathering was held.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Renees memory made to the Salvation Army or the charity of the donors choice would be greatly appreciated by her family.
