Taylor, Boyd Elwood, 71 of 739 Belcher St. Port Williams, Kings Co. With broken hearts we announce the passing of Boyd on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with his family by his side. Born in Berwick, he was the son of late Malcolm & Hazel (Nichols) Taylor. He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, the former, Joyce Ellen (Baxter); son, Bruce (Nancy), Coldbrook; their children: Brenton (Ashley); great grandchildren Sage & Nash; grandchildren: Christina, Brian, Aaron; daughters: Dawn (Tom), Sackville and their daughter, Shari; Lisa, Coldbrook her children: Leta, Drake, Lindsey ; sister, June Boswell, Bedford. Closest to Boyd??s heart was family, friends and community service. He was always willing to lend a hand whenever needed.. In the early years he was self employed at the White Rose Service Station in Auburn & then as owner of the Esso in Kentville. He worked for two years in Truro, returning as an instructor for Automotive and then Heavy Duty Mechanics at the Kingstec Campus in Kentville, retiring from there in 1994. Boyd had a deep commitment to the Air Cadet League of Canada having given of himself for 58 plus years. He began his involvement having joined as a cadet at the age of 14. He became a supply officer & then a CO of # 507, Kentville and a director of the Air Cadet League for Western, N.S. He sat on the Board for CSA & was the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home for 4 years. Boyd??s hobbies included old things; cars, trucks, furniture & a license plate collection. He enjoyed the simple things in life; woodworking, gardening , his wood lot & property in Victoria Beach. When there was a challenge presented to him, he rose to the occasion. He felt that if you believed it was a good thing, do it & be successful. Thus the story behind the opening of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home Co-operative. He believed in the co-operative movement & worked diligently to see it a reality. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 p.m on Thursday from the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr, Coldbrook, (Exit 14) and from where the funeral service will also be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. David Ogilvie officiating. Private interment in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to a bursary fund for the Air Cadets Glider Program in memory of Boyd Taylor.
