Obituary of Paul Douthwright

Douthwright, Paul Clement, 66, of Hantsport, passed away April 12, 2006 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Paul was born June 12, 1939 in Enfield, Hants Co., and was a son of the late John Walter and Harriett Burnett (Fleck) Douthwright. Paul was married to the former, Joyce Woodworth of Gays River, N.S. Their marriage was blessed by a daughter, Crystal Joyce (Michael) Martin, Sheffield Mills and a son, Kevin Paul of Sackville, N.S. Two special grandsons, Devlin and Zachary also of Sheffield Mills, have brought great joy to the families. Paul was employed with the Nova Scotia Power Corp. for 34 years retiring in 1993. He was also a veteran Firefighter having served with the Hantsport Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years. Paul was instrumental in having a history of the Fire Department published to mark its 100th anniversary in 2006. License plates and calendars are also being sold to mark this special occasion. Paul's hobbies are many including, hunting and fishing, but perhaps he is best known as the master craftsman of the beautiful and carefully crafted cribbage boards. Paul has made over 550 of these boards which can be seen in many places around the world. Many of his cribbage boards were donated to various groups as fund raisers as well as placed in many seniors homes. Many joyous times were spent at his cottage during the summer months in Marshville, Pictou Co. His many friends cherished his friendship at bowling and card parties. Besides his wife and children, Paul is survived by a brother, Cecil (Elaine) Truro; sisters: Verna (Jack) Curtin, Lindsay, Ont. and Sister Clement Mary, Halifax; several nieces & nephews He was predeceased by a sister, Yvonne and brothers: Whitney and Earl. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Coldbrook. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the Hantsport Fire Hall. Pastor Reg. Harrison officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Fire Hall. Private interment will be in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. Family flowers only. Donations in Paul's memory may be made to the Hantsport Fire Department, the Hantsport Veterans Fire Fighters, the Palliative Care Unit at Hants Community Hospital or to a charity of choice.
