VanHattem, Rutger Sr.(Rudy) , 91 passed away peacefully on March 24, 2010 in Shannex Orchard Hall, River Street, Kentville. Born in Oldebroek, Holland on March 18, 1919 he was the son of the late Hendrick Jan & Mientje (VanBoven) VanHattem. He immigrated to Canada in April 1960 and operated a successful dairy farm in Woodville for many years. He was a true farmer at heart until his very last days. In his earlier years he loved to hunt and go eel fishing. Upon his retirement from active farming he and his wife Anna, spent parts of many winters in Florida and also travelled to many other places.He was very confident of his faith in God and met the challenges of growing old with a quiet trust in his Lord.He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna (Van Welsum); sister: Riek Regterschot, Holland; daughters, Miep (Wim) Palm, Heemskerk, Holland & Kathy (Peter) Hartenhof, Lakeville; sons, Herman (Ida), Berwick; Henk (Irene), Coldbrook; Rudy Jr. (Alice), Woodville; & Dick (Diane), St. John, N.B.; 21 grandchildren & 40 great grandchildren. Rudy was predeceased by sisters, Aaltje, Mientje, Coba & Martha. The late Rudy VanHattem is resting in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, (Exit 14) where visitation will be held on Monday, March 29th from 6:30???8:30 p.m. A private family burial will take place on Tuesday, March 30th at 1:00p.m. in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Kentville Christian Reformed Church, Oakdene Avenue, Kentville. Pastor Mike Veenema officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall.
