Please share a memory of Bruce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bruce Garnet Long ??? 72 of Black River, Kings Co., passed away suddenly, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on December 1, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He grew up in Black River, the son of the late Ian and Hazel (Smith) Long, and spent his adult life there, farming the land and harvesting the forest. Retirement wasn??t a word he ever considered as he gained great satisfaction from his work. In his earlier years he was a good athlete, enjoying hockey, softball, tug-of-war and hunting. The many friendships he made during that time remained with him throughout his life. In his later years he loved to watch his sons and grandchildren enjoy some of those same sports. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who was trusted and respected for his loyalty and caring ways. He showed great compassion toward his fellow man as he reached out to help those in need, always putting others first. The community was very important to him and he will be sadly missed. Bruce cherished his family and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen (Levy); daughters, Tammy (Brian) Schofield, Black River; Cindy (Paul) Crowdis, Newport Corner; sons, Jeff (Mary), Black River; Trevor (Wanda), Black River; brother, Larry (Mary Ann), Black River and sister, Lynda (Rick) King, Hantsport. He will be deeply missed by grandchildren Josh, Tasia, Sarah, Greg, Mitchell, Jacob, Jonathan, Nicholas, Devan and Brett and his four great grandchildren Jaiden, Brianna, Logan and Grace. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook. A grave side service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Black River Cemetery. Rev. Mark Shaw officiating. In respect of his wishes there will be no visitation or reception. Donations may be made in his memory to the Black River Community Club, c/o Tracey Pick, 765 Sunken Lake Rd. Black River, N.S.
