Macdonald (Sweeney), Frances Marie ??? 92, formerly of Upper Dyke, Kings Co., NS, passed away Tuesday May 31, 2011 in the Q. E. II Health Sciences Centre,Halifax. Born January 1, 1919 in Kentville, she was the daughter of the late Daniel & Lydia (Surette) Sweeney. Frances was a member of St Joseph??s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville and was one of the original board of directors of Kent Co-op Grocery Store, in New Minas. Director of Housekeeping Dept. Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. She is survived by three daughters: Clare Macdonald-Keefe (Kevin) of Halifax, Joan of Halifax, & Stephanie de Graaf (Peter) of Sussex, NS; five sons: Peter of Dartmouth, Frederick (Gordia) of Upper Canard, Ronald (Elaine) of Halifax, Vincent (Cecilia) of Deer Island, NB, Brian (Kathy) of Saint John, NB; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother: Hugh Sweeney (Andrea) of Upper Dyke; three sisters: Georgina Robinson (Harold) of Upper Dyke, Geraldine (Harry) Hayes of Tecumseh, ON, Sister Fleurette Sweeney of Vancouver, BC. Frances was predeceased by her husband: Frederick (Ted); sisters: Iola MacEachern, Violet Archambault, Marcelle Sweeney; brothers: Father Ernest Sweeney & Douglas Sweeney. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, Kings Co. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in St. Vincent Nursing Home Chapel, 2080 Windsor St. Halifax. Father Albert Cosgrove officiating. Interment will take place in the Serenity Gardens Cemetery, Sherman Belcher Rd, Centreville, Kings Co. at 11:30a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Following interment, a reception will be held at the home of Hugh Sweeney, 2207 Lakewood Rd, Upper Dyke, Kings Co. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the V.O.N., Annapolis Valley Branch, St Vincent??s Nursing Home, Halifax, or to the charity of one??s choice.
