Robinson, Georgina Anne, 95, of Kentville, Kings Co. passed away at home on Monday, Feb. 04, 2013. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Daniel & Lydia (Surrette) Sweeney. Georgina was a professional seamstress and a member of St. Joseph??s Roman Catholic Church where she was the church organist and choir director for many years. Georgina was very active in her community. She served on the board of the Kent Credit Union for many years. She was also a school trustee and later the president of the PTA of the local high school. She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII and was named most outstanding female athlete in the #1 Air Command. She was considered Olympic material, but instead chose to return home and marry her childhood sweetheart, Harold. Georgina loved music, and played the piano, violin & harmonica. In her later years she never slowed down. When she was 60 she hitchhiked across Canada with her daughter Ardyth. She took up painting in oils and mixed media. She joined the Kings Fiddlers and played many shows around the province including at the Lunenberg Folk Harbour festival. Her faith in God was as deep as her love for her husband and family. She is survived by her sons, Paul & Ernest both in Dartmouth; daughters, Karen, Halifax; Ardyth, Centreville; grandchildren, Amos, Nadia (Fred), Hannah & Claire and great-grandchild, Christopher; sisters, Geraldine Hayes (Harry), Ont.; Fleurette Sweeney (Sister of Charity), B.C.; brother, Hugh (Andrea) Sweeney, Upper Dyke. Georgina was predeceased by her husband, Harold; son, Christopher; sisters, Iola MacEachern; Violet Archambault, Frances Macdonald and Marcelle Sweeney; brothers, Father Ernest Sweeney & Douglas (Ellen) Sweeney. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 08 (if cancelled because of weather the service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday Feb. 11) in St. Joseph??s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville. Fr. Gerald Saulnier officiating. Interment will be held in Serenity Gardens Cemetery, Sherman Belcher Rd. Centreville. A reception to follow in St. Joseph??s church hall. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook (Exit 14).
