Bent, Laurie Douglas, 77 of South Berwick, Kings Co. passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Thursday, April 05, 2012. Born in Billtown, he was the son of the late Roy & Annie (Dominey ) Bent. He served with the army in Germany as a wireless operator after the Second World War & also in Korea with the Black Watch. Laurie was the first president of the union & held that position for over 20 years of the 33 years that he worked at the Kings Regional Rehabitalition Centre, Waterville . He is survived by sister, Edith (Edwin) Crosslin, Waterville; brother, Howard (Kay), Waterville; step-son, Wayne (Linda) Graves, Cameron, Ont.;4 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl; brothers, Reginald & Herman and sister, Dora. He was also predeceased by his beloved German Shepherd, Scotty, who gave up his life to allow Laurie to come home from the hospital when home care was needed. There will be no visitation at the family??s request. The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., (Exit 14) Coldbrook. Pastor Gary Horton officiating. A legion service of remembrance will also take place with Comrade Ian Rob, chaplain. Interment will take place in the Lake View Cemetery, Lakeville. A reception to follow in the Windemere Community Hall. Donations in memory of Laurie Bent may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of choice.
