McClary, Derek William - It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Derek McClary announce his passing at the age of 55 years on October 18, 2013 at the Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Digby on September 19, 1958, he was the son of William McClary and Dorothy (Stark) Denton (both deceased). Left with fond and loving memories are his cherished wife Jackie McClary of Kingston; sons Billy McClary of Kingston and Patrick Smith (Heather Rycraft) of Calgary; daughters Erica (Paul) MacKinnon of Halifax and Andrea (Darrin) Henshaw of Lower Sackville; grandchildren Bianca, Ian, Charlotte, Brendon, McKenna and Adriana; step mother Mary Anne McClary of Amherst; brothers Shawn and Jonathan; sisters Peggy Lee, Susan, Debbie and their spouses; also by several nieces, nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends. For over 23 years Derek had a successful career in the financial planning industry, and owned his practice - McClary Financial in Calgary. He made many friends whom started out as clients whom continued to stay in contact with him and Jackie. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Paragon Golf Club in Kingston, NS, as well as Harvest Hills Golf Club in Calgary,AB. Derek travelled extensively but one of his highlights was taking a month to travel across Canada, in his motorhome. Derek lived by his motto: No matter what stage in life – make it count and enjoy the journey. Derek’s family would like to thank all former clients, business team members and friends for their continued support and friendship. Also a special Thank You to the VON, Palliative Care Team, especially Dr. Lori Burgess and Katrina Patterson and Nurses at Valley Regional for all of their love, encouragement and kindness. A celebration of life and sharing of memories wake will take place at the The Glass House, 71 Main Street, Middleton, NS on Saturday November 2, 2013 from 2 – 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Derek may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation (15 Chipman Drive, Kentville, NS B4N 3V7).
