Baldwin, Lillian Elsie (Slater) passed away peacefully on Sept 30, 2013 at the Evergreen Home in Kentville. She was born in Winnipeg, December 11, 1926 to Cuthbert and Marie Slater (Davreux). She was predeceased by her husband Willard, her brother, Jonathan Slater and sister, Kathleen Rourke (Slater). She is survived by daughters, Patricia, Yellowknife; Katharine, Wolfville and sons Peter, Starrs Point; Robert, Upper Falmouth; grandchildren, Katharine and Pierre Baldwin-Corriveau, Peter and Gillian Baldwin, Bridgette Baldwin and Miklos and Ilona Kanyasi. During her early childhood, her family moved to Quebec City where she spent her youth. She attended Quebec High School and was later employed with Price Brothers for six years. At a church youth group, she met Willard a young engineer working for Bell Canada and they married in 1948. She attended MacDonald College graduating in 1950 where she was presented with the Governor General’s medal for highest academic achievement. They built their first house in Senneville QC and moved to Clarkson ON for two years in 1959. The family returned to Baie D’Urfe QC and then settled in Hudson Como QC in 1973. While raising her children, she pursued her love for literature, studying English at Sir George Williams University. After Bill’s retirement from Bell in 1981, they moved to Nova Scotia to be closer to their children. They enjoyed twenty wonderful years in Maders Cove near Mahone Bay until Bill’s death in 2001. Lillian moved to Wolfville and finally to the Evergreen home where she has been a resident since 2008. Lillian had a passion for music and dance and was active in choirs and community theatre. As a stay at home mom, her family, her home and her garden were her priorities. She possessed a natural beauty, elegance and grace and was a gracious host to her friends and family. To her children, she instilled the value of education and a good book, the importance of good conversation and the rewards of hard work. As per Lillian’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at the Evergreen Home on Thursday October 3 at 10 am. Donations in memory may be given to your charity of choice.
