Currie, Edith âJeanâ (Mills) - age 88 of Halifax, formerly of Greenwood passed away peacefully on July 13, 2013. Born in Englehart (Heaslip) Ontario. on August 20, 1924, she was the eldest daughter of the late George William and Laura (Nelson) Mills. Jean was a member of the Kingston Legion Branch #98 ladies auxiliary, the Middleton Bowling League, and the Kingston U.C.W. Jean is survived by sons Brian (Lida), Moncton, NB, Melvyn (Joan), Nictaux, NS; daughter Merelyn (Peter Tieleman) Currie, Halifax; chosen-daughter Brenda Ross, Lantz; brothers Lorne (Lenore), Walkerton, ON, Mervyn (Vicki), Kanata, ON; sister Laurene Preston, Dorchester, ON; sister-in-law Grace; grandchildren Leyla, Amanda, Duane, Jaime, Tammy and Jason; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jean is predeceased by her husband Kenneth and brothers Melville and Stanley. In keeping with Jeanâs wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service on Thursday July 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingston United Church with Rev. Michael Mugford officiating. There will be a private family burial at the North Kingston Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Kingston United Church.
