Naugler, Helen Vivian - Age 94, Bridgewater, died July 15, 2013 in South Shore Regional Hospital. Born March 2, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James and Lexie (Baker) Cooke. She married Blake Naugler on December, 10, 1947 and was his primary caregiver in his later years. She was an Honorary Member of the Bridgewater Curling Club. She remained active into her later years both playing and coaching at the Club and in the schools. She was a National Level Curling coach. She received the NS Ladies Curling Assoc. Award of Merit in 1992. Big Brothers/Big Sisters Helen Naugler Award Curl for Kids was created in her name in honour of her contribution (top fundraiser). She helped develop Bridgewater School curling programs. She was a key developer of the Little Rocks Youth Program, which was her pride and joy. She received an award from the Bridgewater Golf and Country Club for years of dedication and service in 1993. She received Volunteer of the Year awards from the Town of Bridgewater and the Province of Nova Scotia in 2004. She was given the Royal Bank Community Sport Heroes award for her service at the Bridgewater Curling Club in 1998. In 2011, she was recognized for her many years of volunteer work at Hillside Pines Home for Special Care. She campaigned for many years for the Lunenburg West Nova Scotia Liberal Party, supporting Don Downe and other local candidates. She was a board member for many years of Hillside Pines, Bridgewater Golf, and Bridgewater Curling Clubs. She was also a member of Osprey Golf Club. She enjoyed playing golf but her true passion was curling. She supported her son, Jim, in all his endeavours, especially his many sports related activities both as a player and coach. She loved to shop, stockpiling gifts for Christmas, and was always looking for a good bargain. She loved her pug, Duke, and enjoyed eating lobster. She is survived by her son, Jim Naugler (Wendy Gardiner); granddaughters Kaitlin Stanzel (Roger), Brittany Naugler; great-grandson Ethan Stanzel; all of Halifax. Also survived by nephew Robert Cooke; nieces Peggy Underwood, Gwen Campbell (Brian), Lexie Stewart (Danny), Jean Kaiser; several grandnieces and grand nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Rex and Earl Cooke, and nephews Jimmie and Christopher Cooke. Thanks to the Bridgewater Police Dept.; the Paramedics, Emergency, and 4th floor staff at the South Shore Regional Hospital; Dr. David Barss and his staff Peggy and Susie; Ward Beck; Bev Chisholm; Shirley and Lee Rankin; and Paul and Shelley Gilbert and family. Special thanks to Bonnie and Milledge Bolivar for all their support, companionship, and assistance over the years. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bridgewater Curling Club, 90 Dominion St. Bridgewater, B4V 1R3 on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 11 am to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bridgewater Curling Club to establish a Memorial Fund in her name to be awarded yearly to the “Little Rockers”.
