Ella Gertrude Collins, 89 died peacefully on June 1st, 2013 with family by her side. Born in Scotch Village on August 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Amelia Sanderson. Ella was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed picking blueberries, gardening and particularly loved South Mountain. She was a private housekeeper for various families in the community, enjoyed quilting in her spare time, and she was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church. Ella is survived by sons Cyril (Mary) Collins, Brenton Collins; daughters Hazel Collins, Bonnie Bowe, Sandra Collins (Stephen); daughter-in-law Lois Collins and sister-in-law Daphne Sanderson, Orangville, ON; grandchildren Carla, Teri, Cari, David, Steven, Jonathan, Kristin, Jacob, Megan; great-grandchildren Rylee, Kaige, Jaiden, Kian. Besides her parents, Ella is predeceased by her husband Cyril Collins, son Stephen Collins, brothers Harold and Earl Sanderson, and sister Hazel Palmer. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Philip Steeves officiating. With respecting family wishes, there will be a private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ella may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia (112-2717 Gladstone Street, Halifax, NS, B3K 0A4), or the Harmony Baptist Church (992 Harmony Rd, Mod 2, Comp 13, RR5 Kingston, NS, B0P 1R0).
