Romkey, Gary Lester - 73, of Coldbrook, formerly of Eastern Passage passed away peacefully on May 16 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Earl and Arelia (Hanson) Romkey. Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years Joan (Campbell) Romkey; son Derrick (Christina); daughter Colleen (Tom); granddaughters Kimberly, Amanda (Andy) and Chantal (Oscar) and great-grandson Dominic; and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by brothers Eric (Jeanette) of River John, NS; Don (Thelma) of Dartmouth and sisters Shirley Baker, Middle Musquodoboit; Lillian Vincent, Dartmouth. Gary was predeceased by brother Jim (Laura) and sister Kathleen Marshall. Gary was a firefighter on the Dartmouth Fire Department for 32 years; a Scout Cub and Venturer leader for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and dancing but was happiest spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. A memorial service will take place on May 18, 2013 at 6 P.M. at Serenity Lindsay Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Berwick Chapel with Rev. Wayne Merrell officiating, followed by a reception. There will be no visitation by request. A private family burial will take place in Dartmouth at a later date. Family flowers only by request. Donations in Garyâs memory may be made to the Childrenâs Wish Foundation (238 Brownlow Ave, Suite 105, Dartmouth, NS, B3B 2B4). The family wishes to express a special thank you to the ICU staff of the Valley Regional Hospital for their caring treatment of Gary.
