Schofield, Daniel “Owen” – 83, of Kentville, passed away peacefully May 9, 2013 at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital Veterans Unit in Middleton, NS. Born January 14, 1930 in Baxter’s Harbour, he was the eldest son of the late Samuel and Verna (Rafuse) Schofield. Owen served our country in the Korean War and worked after the war as a carpenter and machinist. He is survived by his partner Myrna Melvin, Kentville; his two sons Warren and Arnold as well as a brother Everett (Jessie) Schofield, Glenmont; sister Linda (Allison) Coleman, Middle Sackville; and several grandchildren. Owen was predeceased by brothers Laurie (Verna) and Lawrence (Hilda) and sister Doris. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff and nurses of the veterans ward of the Soldiers Memorial Hospital for providing kindness and care in his final days. There will be a graveside service Monday May 13 at 11:00 a.m. in Baxter’s Harbour Cemetery with Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. A reception will follow in the community hall. Donations in memory of Owen may be made to the Baxter’s Harbour Community Association (735 Old Baxter Mill Road, RR #5 Canning, NS, B0P 1H0).
