McClafferty, Douglas A It is with great sadness that the family of âDougâ McClafferty announces his passing on April 21, 2013. Born in East Ferry, NS, on March 6, 1936, he was the youngest son of Willie and Leta McClafferty. Doug later moved to Digby where he became employed with the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans in July 1961, retiring as District Supervisor in 1992. Doug always enjoyed working with young people, and in 1968 became involved with the 26 Cornwallis Sea Cadets, serving as Commanding Officer from 1972-1979. He later joined the Navy League, and has served as the Liaison between the Royal Canadian Legion and the Cornwallis Sea Cadets since 2008. He was presently a member of the Digby Water Commission as well as the Board of Directors for the local Branch of Superannuates. A family man first and foremost, his greatest pride was his three children and three grandchildren. Doug enjoyed a life of quiet, simple pleasures, spending many hours puttering in his garden or his workshop, and walking with Bill. He was known and loved by many as a person who never complained and always had a kind word or deed. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn; daughters Marianne (Bert) Hudson, Halifax; Lisa (Dan) Matte, Dartmouth, and son Michael (Michelle) McClafferty, Cary, NC. Grandchildren Sarah Hudson, Halifax NS, Kaylin and Evan McClafferty, Cary NC; sister Marion Clark, East Ferry NS; sister-in-law Carolyn McClafferty, Digby, and several nieces and nephews.
