Dondale, Wendell Phillip "Phil" - 89, Digby, passed away peacefully December 14, 2012 at home. Born April 24, 1923 in Princedale, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Noble Ray and Amy (Feener) Dondale. A Veteran of the 1939 - 1945 War he served in the Canadian Merchant Marine in the North and South Atlantic and in 1941 enlisted in the Army serving in Canada, England, and Northwest Europe. For his services in France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany with the Canadian Provost Corps, 2nd Canadian Corps, he received a Citation from Field Marshall B L Montgomery, Commander in Chief, 21st Army Group, for 'performing outstanding good service and great devotion to duty during the Campaign in Northwest Europe'. He was a former partner in the firm Eaton and Dondale. He was the first Regional Director of Assessment appointed in the Province of Nova Scotia, retiring from the Civil Service in 1983. He was a Life Member of the Nova Scotia Institute of Assessors, member of the Nova Scotia Government Retired Employees Association, former member and Chairman of Digby Industrial Commission, member of the Digby Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Jo Webber, sons Gregory (Nancy), Digby; Michael (Barbara), North Range; grandsons Marc (Kim), Middleton; Matthew (Tanya), Masstown; Jeffrey (Rachel), North Range; Great grandchildren, Shawn Geauvreau, Calgary; Emma-Leigh and Adrian Dondale, Middleton; Taylor Darai, Masstown; Haylee Goodwin, North Range; Lamert P.J. Dondale, North Range; sisters Mildred Woodland, Lorraine Saulnier, Annapolis Royal; Betty Rushton, Yarmouth; brothers George (Janice), Lequille; Charles (Joan) Ontario. He was predeceased by step mother, Idella; brothers Karl, Warren, step sisters Florence (Smith) Robar; Kathleen (Smith) Woodbury, Bridgetown; granddaughter Patricia Lynn, in infancy. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Graveside service to be held December 18th, 2012 at 1 o?¢clock pm from the Baptist Cemetery, Digby with a reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Digby.
