Sanders, Leitha Pauline (Meister) - 96, of New Ross; passed away peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Friday, November 2, 2012. Born in New Ross; she was a daughter of the late Lincoln and Mary - Burdette쳌 (Gates) Meister. Leitha graduated from the Horton Academy of Acadia University in May 1939 with a certificate in Stenography. She worked for Swift Canada and Acadia University. Later she became an owner operator of HC Sanders and Son Limited. Leitha was a member of the New Ross Baptist Church where she was a former organist, organizer of the church male choir, and a member of the Cemetery Committee. She was a lifetime member and secretary of the Women?¢s Missionary Society. Leitha was the treasurer of the M.B. Auxiliary. She was also a lifetime member of the New Ross Historical Society and the founding member of the Charing Cross Garden Club. Furthermore, Leitha was a former member of the board of commissioners of the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax and Shoreham Village, Chester. She was a loving wife to the late Henry Creighton Sanders. Leitha is survived by her son Dwight (Linda), New Ross; grandchildren Robert; Roger; Sharon (Martin Walker); Julia; great grandchildren Trent; Leah; sisters Bernice Hiltz; and Kathleen Dakin. Besides her parents and husband she is predeceased by her brothers Fred; Charlie; Cedric; Otis; half brothers Goodwin; Clifford; Murray; and half sisters Annie; Jean; Marguerite; and Edna. In keeping with Leitha?¢s wishes there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, November 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the New Ross Baptist Church with Pastor David Hine and Pastor Gordon James officiating; followed by interment in the Baptist Church Cemetery, Forties. Leitha?¢s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care provided to her by her dear friend Cindy and grandson Roger. Donations in her memory may be made to the New Ross Baptist Church or the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department.
