Obituary of Courtney Sylvanus Reeves

Reeves, Courtney Sylvanus - 82, passed away peacefully at home, in New Ross, NS; on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Born on February 4, 1930; he was a son of the late Harold and Verna (Swinimer) Reeves. In his early years Cort hauled lumber for the family logging business. In 1962 he and his wife Reta moved to Toronto, Ontario where he was employed for six years as a crane operator for the Ritchie Cut Stone Company until they ceased operations. He then worked for the Public Works Department of the City of Etobicoke for 23 years. He received many safety awards for accident-free driving on the fast moving and heavily travelled city streets during his employment. Cort enjoyed road trips with Reta, hunting, bowling, and growing vegetables in his garden. He loved to cook for family and friends. These gatherings always included playing auction 45. Cort is survived by his special adopted daughter Kathy Rushton; grandchildren Heather and Carrie, all of Ontario; sisters Madeline Walker, Granville Ferry; Elsie (Harold) French, New Hampshire, USA; Pansy Hiltz, Forties; Elva Bezanson, Blockhouse; brother Oran (Janet) Reeves, New Ross; sisters-in-law Myrna Reeves; Dorothy Reeves; Jean Veinot; Sue Veinot; Rhoda Veinot; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Reta; infant daughter Maureen; brothers Clifford; Maurice; Percy; Basil; infant sister Beatrice; brothers-in-law Melvin Walker; Foster Hiltz; David Veinot; and Roy Veinot; and a sister-in-law Della Reeves. Visitation for Cort will take place on Thursday August 9, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. in Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, New Ross. Funeral Service will be held on Friday August 10 at 2:00 p.m. from the St. Augustine?¢s Church, Forties with Reverend Everett Hill officiating; followed by burial in the St. Augustine?¢s Cemetery. Donations in Cort?¢s memory may be made to the St. Augustine?¢s Anglican Church Cemetery Fund.
