Born April 5th, 1927 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, Marjorie spent summers in the French Quarter of New Orleans, LA working in her aunt?¢s bookstore, while she was enrolled in Mississippi State College for Women. She graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree and a minor in Art. In 1949 she travelled to the largest art colony in the United States, Provincetown, Massachusetts. She studied painting at the Cape Cod School of Art, where she eventually met and married fellow artist Charles Alexander Couper. She was an art and 3rd grade elementary school teacher in California & MA for 30 years. She volunteered at the Digby Admiral Museum and taught adult literacy classes.
