VANDYKE, Kees - Vanì³ - 86, of Canning, passed away on April 12, 2012, in the Valley Regional Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rotterdam, Holland, he was the son of the late Konrad and Bertha van Dijk. He got his first taste of cooking at a young age in his uncle?¢s restaurant in Holland and enjoyed the experience. He moved to Ontario, Canada in the late 1940?¢s and it became home to him for a number of years. He was a chef who always loved cooking and teaching people how to cook. He also loved sailing, fishing, swimming, and traveling. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Van was a kind and helpful people person, and will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Margaret (Carver) VanDyke; sons, Robert, Sundridge, ON., Andy, Etibicoke, ON.; daughter, Theresa, London, ON.; sister, Bertie, Holland; grandchildren, Conrad, Adam, Melissa, Andrew, Michael, and Daniel. Besides his parents, Van was predeceased by his brother John. A funeral memorial service followed by a reception will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, with Reverend Don Rafuse officiating. Interment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home and Crematorium, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, B4P 1E7.
