Obituary of Ruth Hill
Hill (Scott), Ruth Hope - 78, of Berwick, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012 in Silver's Rest Home, Berwick, Nova Scotia. Born in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Havelock and Mary (Brittain) Scott.
Ruth was a bookkeeper and was employed by the Federal Government for most of her career until she retired in 1992. She was a very active member of the communities that she lived in. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Berwick, Dartmouth, and Prince Edward Island and was a Past Grand Officer for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Ruth was also a Grand Representative for the Order of Eastern Star in Iowa, USA. She was a past member of the MacPherson Auxiliary with the Berwick Baptist Church. As well, Ruth was a Charter Member of the Daughters of Nile and of the Valley Shriners.
Ruth and her husband, George, really enjoyed travelling and were members of the Motor Coach Club and Good Sam Club. Ruth will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 57 years. She will be affectionately remembered by her son Scott (Helen), Charlottetown, PEI; daughters Deborah (Wendell) Howes, Rothesay, NB; Judy (Kevin) Bateman, Cambridge; grandchildren Mark Howes; Chris Howes; Jason Hill; Lindsay Kelly; Jacob Horsnell; step grandchildren Amanda Bateman; Chris Bateman; great grandchildren Paige Howes; Colton Howes; Ivy Howes: Emma Kelly; step great grandson Jackson Bateman; brothers Ron (Marietta) Scott, Plymouth; Steven (Wanda), Yarmouth; sister Betty Ann (Robert) MacKenzie, Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be an Order of Eastern Star Service held on Wednesday April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home Chapel, Berwick followed by a visitation from 7 - 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Berwick Baptist Church with Reverend Marilyn Rose officiating. A private family interment will be held in the Berwick Cemetery followed by a reception catered by the MacPherson Auxiliary. Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Eastern Valley Shriners Club or to a charity of choice.
