Donald Patriquin posted a condolence

Dear Family of Glen,
I met Glen only once but grew up with his name, as he was a long-standing friend of my father, Graham Patriquin. When I saw Glenchr(39)s name last summer during a visit to the Museum, I could not believe he was not only still living, but was less than a stonechr(39)s throw from where my two brothers and their families and I were standing! We absolutely HAD to see him, even if it was just about supper time. So we phoned Glen (though I guess we could have called loudly!) and without a momentchr(39)s hesitation he invited us to come up the hill and visit. I am SO glad we did. It was a beautiful end of day, and we all sat around a large table in his yard, surrounded by flowers and other things that he had so carefully tended. I never knew he was some 14 years younger than my father, as Dad had never mentioned this apparently unimportant fact.
As we talked with Glen I experienced a curious time shift, as Dad seemed to be there with us, though hechr(39)d died some fifteen years before. What a wonderful, reminiscent meeting that was. Glen had just picked a huge pack of strawberries and looked fit as a fiddle. He talked about boyhood days, and of visits with our family in Wolfville over the years, as through it were yesterday. What a memory- he certainly put ME to shame! What a privilege to be able to spend time with such an eloquent and loving person. I came away the better for it. He and Dad had remained close friends and were in touch until Dad passed away in 1997. I recall Glen sending my parents a card EVERY Christmas. He certainly was one of a kind, and one of a vanishing breed, as one obituary pointed out. He surely lives on in the lives of those who knew him. My condolences to you all, dear family.
With love and thanks for Glenchr(39)s life and friendships, Donald.

I offer my deepest condolences on the passing of "Uncle" Glen - a true gentleman and a gifted writer. I found his two memoirs to be very moving and they taught me a great deal about life in the Valley. He welcomed me into the Beverige family, as Jimchr(39)s wife and the step mother of three young children. I admired him for his warm-heartedness and kindness.

I was privileged to know Glen for more than 40 years, from the time he helped me get my first job in journalism at the Dartmouth Free Press. I wish we could have seen more of each other, but our meetings -- in Halifax, London and Wolfville -- are among my most treasured memories. Last August we set up a lunch for what turned out to be the day after Rustychr(39)s death. It was typical of Glen to insist on going ahead with it despite that terrible blow. Wendy and I extend our deepest sympathy, and I would like to include my parents in this because they may not be able to communicate themselves. They held Glen in the highest possible esteem. The simple truth is that we loved him.

Glen was my Public Relations teacher when I was a student at the Halifax School of Journalism. He was a man of integrity, a great role model, one of the finest teachers I ever had. Later, when I was involved in Public Relations projects, and was met with a dilemma, I always asked myself - "What would Glen Hancock do?" I feel truly privileged to have had him as a teacher. The world is a better place because he was in it. We will miss him.

Glen Hancock was a person you could never forget. He had a very pleasant personality and a very quiet mannerism. I was a journalism student at the University of Kings College and always looked forward to his classes. I still value his words of wisdom which certainly helped with my success throughout the years. I wish I had known he retired in Wolfville as I would have made it a point to visit him.
I extend my condolence to his family.

I am very sorry to learn of Glenchr(39)s death. I knew him through the Valley Writerschr(39) Association and have enjoyed his hospitality at his Christmas and garden parties and various other reasons to gather at his home.
Glen was an elegant man. He had a great curiosity and fabulous sense of humour. He basked in hearing new ideas and while he respected the past, wasnchr(39)t mired in it.
We are all better for knowing him.

My sympathies to the family. I worked with Glen many years ago on the Board of the City Club in Halifax when he was still in PR with Imperial Oil.
A man of great integrity and thoughfulness - he was a pleasure to know and to work with.
Certainly one who leaves a wonderful legacy

Beau & family,
What a joy it has been to have Glen as our friend, and for so many reasons. We already miss him. He had so many good qualities, including exceptional intelligence and wisdom, grace, a friendly outgoing personality, warmth, integrity, principled, excellent health, and so many more, but inspite of all these wonderful attributes, he was a very humble man. We are so glad he invited us into his life, and will always cherish those memories.
With our condolences,
David & Lynn (Morse)

Dear Beau and Johanna:
I was saddened to read of your dadchr(39)s passing. I didnchr(39)t know him well but had the pleasure of meeting him several times. He was a gentleman and, for writers like myself of a younger generation, an inspiration. His accomplishments were many in a full and productive life. Please accept condolences on behalf of myself and my wife Cathy.
