Adelaar, Livia - Peacefully, on November 28, 2011 in Digby, N.S., at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Emanuel Adelaar and devoted mother of Jack (Maryon), Maritza Adams (Jim) and Martin (Melanie). Livia (Oma) will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Alex, Jay, Samuel and Nadine and by her great grandchildren, Payton, Trey, Angus and Alistair. She also will be lovingly remembered by family members, Nick and Joan Backer and their family, and Jeanne Backer. She was predeceased by her brothers, Nicholas and Ignac.Livia was born in Nitra, Slovakia and, at various times during and after the second World War, lived in Holland, England and Montreal before settling in Weymouth, N.S. in 1954, where she and her husband made a new life for themselves and their family. Very sociable by nature, Livia participated in local clubs and enjoyed hosting family and friends. She was an avid bridge player for most of her life, loved her garden and enjoyed reading. Livia supported her husband?¢s business ventures and his civic efforts to improve the economy and lives of the people in southwestern Nova Scotia. She created a strong foundation for her children to explore the world and remain strong in the face of adversity. Her love, optimism, strength and humour will be forever cherished by those who loved her so dearly.
