Obituary of Donald Ernest Jackson

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The Rev. Donald Jackson, born October 5, 1921, passed from this life quietly in his sleep on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at his residence in the Veterans Memorial Building, Halifax, Nova Scotia. He had been honored to serve in the Canadian Air Force during World War II and so spent his last years in the company of comrades. His beloved wife of over 60 years, Hetty Jackson, predeceased him in the fall of 2007 and soon after, his son Peter. His sons Christopher and Timothy, his six grandchildren, his sister Julia, brothers Leslie and James all grieve the loss of their family members. Rev. Jackson attended Acadia University, Dalhousie University and was ordained in the late 1940's. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, his calling in the Baptist Church took the family to numerous rural and urban locations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Qu©bec. His final years of ministry were spent in Port Williams, Nova Scotia. All of his parishioners remember him fondly, not the least of which are those in Moncton, New Brunswick where he spent considerable time. With empathy and wisdom Rev. Donald Jackson ministered to all in his compassionate manner. From each parsonage filled with music and robust activity to the skill he demonstrated in the bowling alley, Donald Jackson enjoyed life. Despite the devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease from which he ultimately suffered, his characteristic smile and enthusiastic greeting remained intact. His funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, November 24, 2011 in the Wolfville Baptist Church, Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Internment will be a private service for the family in Sackville, Nova Scotia. The family requests donations to the Alzheimer Society in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home & Crematorium, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, Nova Scotia B4P 1E7. Donations and condolences may be sent to the above address or by visiting: www.serenitylindsayfuneralhome.ca
