PARRISH, Harold Laverne - 75, Rockland, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2011, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by his loving family. Harold spent his final hours with his devoted son, Michael, at his side. He fought a brave battle for four years with Non-Hodgkin?¢s Lymphoma and died from complications of the disease. Harold was born on January 5, 1936, in Berwick to the late Harold Ira and Dora Leota (Rafuse) Parrish. He was proud to be the 5th. Parrish generation to live on the family farm. Harold was an upholsterer for 45 years with 11 of those years with Hayden Furniture. He opened his own business, Parrish Upholstery, which operated for 35 years in Berwick. During this time he worked hard to maintain the family beef farm which became the largest registered pure-bred Salers farm in Nova Scotia. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially playing cards. He was known for his generosity and helping his neighbours and friends and was respected by everyone he met. Harold will truly be missed by everyone who knew him. He had a great sense of humour and loved spending time with family. Harold was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Waterville Baptist Church for many years and was an adherent of the Weston Christian Fellowship Church. Harold was a long-time member of the Salers Association of Canada and the Maritime Salers Association. He was recently awarded from the Maritime Salers Association a long time achievement award for 25 years of dedication to the breeding and promotion of Salers cattle. Harold is survived by his loving wife of over 51 years, Esther E. (Woodworth), Rockland; his children, Susan (Tom) Skinner, Millville; Stephen, Rockland; David (Angela), South Waterville; Dr. Michael, Hamilton, Ont.; his grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) and Christa Skinner, Joel and Devon Parrish; his sisters, Dorothy (Joseph) Saulnier, Hantsport; Joyce Levy, Greenwich; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother in infancy. Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 18. Pastor Gary Horton officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of ones choice.
