SAUNDERS, Arthur Theodore "Arkie" ?ì³ 87. Born April 13, 1923, passed away peacefully in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on April 10, 2011. Art served in the RCAF during the war years. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He lived and worked in Marlborough, Mass., U.S.A. for a few years before he moved to Darmouth where he worked at Fairey Aviation in the drawing and engineering office for 10 years. Art and Enid had a trophy business in Dartmouth, known as "Art's Trophy House" which they ran for 25 years. They were successful and very proud of their business. They were a great team and a loving couple always. They traveled in Canada and drove to Florida for many years after their retirement. Art bowled on a Dartmouth league for many years. He loved horseshoes. He was a member of the Paragon Golf Club and enjoyed playing in Nova Scotia and Florida - especially in tournaments. Art was the son of Harry and Leah Saunders; brother of Beatrice Taylor (deceased), Geraldine Jackson, Harriet Himmelman (deceased), Dorothy Lutz and Mary-Lou Lambert. He was predeceased by his wife, Enid Faye. He is survived by his sons, Terry and wife, Aren, and Reid and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Nisa, Steven, Erin, Jan, Sophia and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Emma, Jessica, Samantha and Aliyah. Art is also survived by his companion, Alberta Keddy. Thanks to the nurses and doctors on the surgical wing who patiently cared for our dad in his time of need. Viewing from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the Funeral Service will take place at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 13. Rev. Freda MacDonald officiating, with burial in the East Black Rock Cemetery. Reception to follow in Black Rock Community Centre.
