GREER, Roger Burton 78, of Kentville , NS died peacefully in his home at Parkstone with family gathered and under the tender care of the wonderful staff at Parkstone Retirement Home. Born in Halifax he was the only son of the late Helen E. (MacDonald) and Andrew D. Greer of Halifax. Roger attended Chebucto Road School, QEHS, Maritime College of Pharmacy and Dalhousie University where he was active in sports particularly varsity football. In 2004, Roger (along with his teammates on the 1954 men?¢s football team) was inducted into the Dalhousie University Sports Hall of Fame. Throughout his years in Kentville, Roger was employed as a Medical Service Representative for Parke Davis & Co, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years where he not only fought numerous fires but also served in an administrative capacity. Roger could often be found at the Fire Hall socializing with the other volunteers or calling the numbers at bingo. Roger was an avid collector. He was a member of the Valley Stamp Club and collected stamps, postcards, coins and a variety of antiques. In his spare time he loved to fish. Roger is survived by his sister Barbara (Wiseman) Toronto, ON; and his children Cheryl (Stephane Pepin) Montreal, QC; John (Sandra) Bedford, NS; Rodney (Brenda), Kingston, NS. and his grandchildren Brandon and Rylan, Bedford NS. Besides his parents, Roger was predeceased by his wife Carol Anne (Stoddard). Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A Funeral Service will be held at the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville, NS at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011 with Rev. Dr. Randy Crozsman officiating. Reception to follow at the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department. Thank you to the all of the staff at Parkland and Parkstone Retirement Homes for the care Roger received in the 3 years he resided there. A special thank you to Darlene, Cherri, Wendy, Jennifer and others who tended to him during his last hours. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of NS, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
