Allen, Edwin Leslie, 90, passed away at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville peacefully with his daughters and grand-daughter at his side, on February 3, 2011. He was born in Melanson and was the son of the late Elmer and Leah (Gent) Allen. Edwin worked for his father during the Second World War and continued on to be a Mechanic and Evaporator manager for R.W. DeWolfe for twenty years until 1960. He drove a school bus for Rooney?¢s bus service in Canning. Edwin owned and operated Country General Stores in Melanson and Centreville. As well he worked for Ralph Stirling in his apple industry. Edwin was a supporter of his community as he was a volunteer for the Wolfville Fire Department and was a trustee of the Gaspereau Cemetery for a number of years. He is survived by his loving wife Edna (Biggs); daughters Heather (Terry) Hennigar, Greenwich; Leah - Jean쳌 (Robert) Lawrence, Brookfield; brother, Robert (Muriel) Wolfville; sisters Thelma Duncan, Avonport; Josephine (Bruce) Dunlop, Winnipeg, MB; Lila (Sandy) MacLean, Truro; Patricia (Peter) Longino, Ottawa, ON; Five grandchildren, Ten grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews. Aside from his parents, Edwin is predeceased by his brothers William, Charlottetown, PEI; Peter, Moosejaw, SK; sister Mary Ellis, Melanson; and his grandson Todd Hennigar. A visitation will be held at Serenity Lindsay Funeral Homes, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, NS on Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 7-9 where a Funeral Service will take place on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 1 p.m. Lay- Chaplain Jim Norton Officiating, Burial will be at a later date at Gaspereau Cemetery. Special thank you to the staff of the Valley Regional Hospital in Medical - A쳌 and the staff at Shannex Blomidon Court, for their loving car and attention. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Edwin?¢s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Valley Hospice Foundation, or charity of your choice.
