LUCY GILLIS PASSES AWAY AT AGE 100
IN BERWICK
GILLIS, Lucy Jane - 100, Fundy Villa Apartments, Berwick, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2010, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with her family by her family by her side. She was a daughter of the late Daniel H. and Ella M. (Gates) Sarsfield. Lucy received nursing training at the Victoria General Hosptial, Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick and a Hospital in the United States. She was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and was a life member of Laurel Chapter # 67, Order of the Eastern Star, Berwick. Lucy and her late husband, Howard, were Administrators of the County Home in Waterville. She had nursed for a total of 47 years and spent many years in the O.R. at the W.K.M., Hospital, Berwick. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Ann (Lorimer) Porter, Coldbrook; son, Larry (Lorie) Gillis, Grafton; brother, Cecil Sarsfield, Burlington, Ont.; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, W. Howard Gillis; son-in-law, Cpl. Terry Totten; sisters, Elizabeth and Beatrice; brothers, Harris and George Sarsfield; granddaughter, Suzanne Lynn Garland; great-grandson, Tyson Reid. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Berwick Baptist Church or to Laurel Chapter # 67, Order of the Eastern Star, Berwick.
