MONK (Crosby) Gail Heather - 63, of Berwick, Kings Co., formerly of Mount Uniacke, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. surrounded by family members. Gail was born in South Ohio, Yarmouth Co., on July 19, 1947, and was a daughter of Muriel (Crosby) Crosby, originally of Yarmouth now of Berwick and the late Harold Crosby. She graduated from Yarmouth Vocational School and worked for several accounting firms in Yarmouth and Halifax. After her sons finished school Gail obtained employment with the Canadian Coast Guard. She was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and enjoyed travelling to various countries, singing in the church choir, family gatherings and her beautiful grandchildren. Besides her mother, Gail is survived by sons, Andrew Shayne (Meridith) Monk, Hammonds Plains; Jason (Becky Norman) Monk, Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Bailey, Coady and Kalan; former husband, Gerald Monk, East Ship Harbour; sister, Roberta (James) Earle, Berwick; brother, Wendell (Joanna) Crosby, Kingston; nieces, Nancy Porter and Wendy Fraser; nephews, Kent and Steven Smith; Lyle Crosby; many dear friends from Mount Uniacke, Yarmouth, Berwick, Ontario and Sweden. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service for Gail will take place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 14, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating, with burial in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Cemetery, Yarmouth Co., at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Gideon Bible Society. A special thank you is extended from the family to the Victorian Order of Nurses and the Palliative Care Team.
