Colp, Donald Joseph - 72, Guysborough, N.S. passed away peacefully in Harbour Stone Nursing Home Sydney, N.S. on Nov. 19, 2010. Son of Burnell Guy & Mary Kathleen (Cashen) Colp of Halifax. Born on June 28, 1938 in Halifax. As a young boy Donald attended St. Agnes School and St. Patrick?¢s High School. Graduating from The Halifax Regional High School with an Electrical course in 1957. At Graduation he was the recipient of the Lt. Governors Birks Medal. Don joined the CBC in 1957 where he was employed for almost 36 years as a Technician. He worked in Staging Department for Don Messer?¢s Jubilee and Take 30 with Adrienne Clarkson, Lighting, Master Control, Telecine and transferred to the CBC Transmitter on Geizers Hill. He became Chairman for the Nabet Union Safety Committee on behalf of his co-workers. Retiring in 1993, he moved on to various careers with the American Red Cross as a Volunteer. His first deployment was the Earthquake in Los Angeles, California; three disasters in Florida including Homestead, south of Miami and onward to Texas for flooding; 911 in New York City, 2001; and Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana 2005. He was very proud to be an avid volunteer when called upon. He was a member and on Parish Council of St. Anne Roman Catholic Church in Guysborough since 1988; Past President and member of The Guysborough Historical Society for 17 years; A 30 year member of the Canadian Power & Sail Squadron; member of Shearwater Yacht Club and Dartmouth Yacht Club for over 30 years; Owner and operator of Atlantis Yacht Ltd. in Dartmouth with his wife. Surviving are his Beloved wife and Best Friend Janelle Lillian (Murphy) Colp of 47 years; Proud father of son, Gregory Donald Colp, France; Daughter Elizabeth Janelle, and her husband Darren; granddaughter Liberty Dawn Larson, Belleville, Ontario; mother-in-law, Mildred Murphy, Guysborough; sister-in-law Donna Edna Arneil; niece Lisa Ruth Rasmussen; nephew Neilson Arneil, Victoria, B.C. The family wished to thank the wonderful and caring staff of The Harbour Stone Nursing Home, Nurses Vikki, Janie, Barbara Jean and Angela, plus all the other nurses on Wentworth Court. Special thanks to Doctors Murdock Smith and Glen Gracie of Sydney. Also the special doctors of Guysborough Memorial Hospital Dr. Foley, Dr. Mahendrarajah, Dr. Bell and Dr. Ayoub for all of the care and support shown to my husband over the past several years. Cremation has taken place. A Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maritime Brain Tissue Bank.
