Obituary of Nancy Elida Acker

Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ACKER, Nancy Elida (McKay) 89, Centreville fell asleep in death on July 2, 2010. Her loving family were with her when she closed her eyes for the last time. Nancy was born in Lolland, Denmark on August 14, 1920 the daughter of Lars and Alma Hansen. Nancy came to Canada in 1929 with her family. Three sisters, Linnea, Agot and Lillia remained in Denmark. Nancy was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth McKay and her second husband, Otis Acker; brothers: Gunnar, Edwin and Helge; sisters: Linnea, Agot, Lillia, Anny and Molly. Nancy is survived by one brother, Peter Hansen; sons: Keith (Karen) McKay, Richard (Tammy) McKay; daughters: Joyce (Richard) Butler and Linda (Blair) Jess. Nancy was referred to as Besta (Danish for grandmother) by her grandchildren: Sonja (Josh), Heidi (Roger), Heather (Jeff), Trevor (Amber), Adam (Debbie), Amy (Marion), and Haley (David). Besta has four great-grandsons Aidan, Devon, Austin and Otis and one unborn great-granddaughter, Elida due in September. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews both here in Canada and in her birthplace, Denmark. Nancy was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on December 26, 1961. She had a firm and unwavering belief in the Bible's promise that all the dead in God's memory will receive a resurrection back to a restored earth of God's making. Job 14: 14-15 asks, "If an able bodied man dies can he live again.....You will call, and I myself shall answer you. For the work of your hands you will have a yearning." We, your family, also have a yearning for that wonderful time. Nancy was a loving and hospitable person. She worked hard to help bring up her four children when her first husband, Ken, was not able to work due to health problems. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed the beauty of God's creation. Despite her dementia in her later years, she was still enthralled by the trees and flowers. They were a source of wonder to her. The family wish to thank Dr. Keri McAdoo. Keri was Nancy's doctor for the past 15 years. When Nancy was no longer able to attend her office, Dr. McAdoo made house calls. Thank you Dr. McAdoo. Thanks also to the Annapolis Valley Branch of V.O.N. Special thanks for the help and support of loving caregivers: Beth Lynn, Sharrell, Edna, Mary Anne, Lisa N. and Lisa B. Your help made it possible for Nancy to stay at home with Blair and Linda almost to the end. Thanks also to the staff of Evergreen Home for Special Care where Nancy spent the last three weeks of her life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10th at 2 pm in the Centreville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Kings Co., N.S. Paul Crandall will be officiating. Family flowers only.
