Obituary of Helen Ruth Sanford

SANFORD (THOMAS), Helen Ruth - 90, Aylesford East, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, in the Valley RegionalHospital, Kentville. Born in Aylesford East, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Illsley) Thomas. Helen had worked in the Canning Factory in Aylesford, and later at M.W. Graves Ltd., Berwick, mostly in Quality Control. She loved her garden and flowers, was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed working at her sons roadside vegetable stand. Helen had always enjoyed time spent camping. Surviving are her son, Allen Gates, Aylesford East; step-son, Michael Sanford; grandchildren, David (Diane) and Gary Gates; great-granddaughters, Grace and Madalyn; brother, David Thomas; sister, Marguerite Graham; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husbands, Clifford Gates and Frederick Sanford; son, Gary Gates; brothers, Richard and Cyril Thomas; sisters, Bertha Bligh; Audrey Freeman. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend a Graveside Service for Helen at 2 p.m., Monday, July 5, in the Berwick Cemetery, Main St., Berwick. Rev. Clyde Lowe officiating. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
