HUGHES, David Andrew -- 42, Hantsport, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Born in Windsor, he was the son of Leonard and Carol (Oickle) Hughes. As a child, David was in the Cubs, Scouts, and Ventures, and was excited to attend jamborees in Prince Edward Island, and Calgary. He was employed with Esso for six years and was on the "Spanish Mist", a tug boat for Fundy Gypsum for 14 years. David was also the cemetery caretaker for the Town of Hantsport. His interests and passions were many, including snow shoeing, cross country skiing, carpentry, woodworking, and martial arts. David was a real history buff, and was a member of the Hantsport Historical Society. He could often be found doing his "coffee cruises" with several friends. David had a great love of all animals and leaves behind his feline friends Othello, Miho, and Enkido. Besides his parents, he is survived by his beloved goddaughter, Anita McLellan, Hantsport; his niece, Tara Steele at home; sister, Cathy (Murray) Steele; nephews, Murray Jr., Jonathan, and David; niece, Jessica; brother, Leonard Hughes, Kirkland Lake, Ont.; and niece, Lyla Hughes, Kapuskasing, Ont. Also surviving are several aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Owen and Naomi Oickle; uncles, Ivan Oickle, Murray Oickle, and Fred White, and his Aunt Charlotte Oickle, Aunt Nora, as well as, Tien Tian. David will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. The memorial service will be held in Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 568 Main St., Wolfville, on Saturday, February 13, at 2 p.m. with Kevin Guptill officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held at West Ground Search and Rescue Centre, Mount Denson. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to the SPCA.
