WHITE, Denis Herbert - 82, Port Williams passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side after a long battle with Alzheimer's and cancer on Sunday February 13, 2011 in Port Williams. Born in Gilberts Cove he was a son of the late James and Sarah (Melanson) White. In his early years he was an engineer in the merchant marines on the Caribbean Sea. He gave up his life at sea to get married and raise a family but never gave up his love of the sea. He worked several years as a truck driver before going to work for Standard Paving where he was employed for 25 years. starting as a heavy equipment operator and ending as a crusher foreman for 18 years. He will be remembered for his work ethics, his wit, his pranks, and his story telling. Denis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marion (Saltzman); daughter Debbie (Ian) Luscombe, Canning; sons Randy (Patricia), Kitscoty, Alta, Ron (Dallas), Arlington; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Brown, Annapolis Royal. He will also be missed by his little black Pomeranian, Tilly, his constant companion. Besides his parents Denis was predeceased by a son Leonard in infancy; brothers Joseph, Chester, Charlie and Leonard; sisters Muriel, Viola, Dorothy and Edith. Cremation has taken place. A funeral memorial service will be held Thursday February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. John's Anglican Church, Port Williams The Reverend David Garrett officiating. Donations in memory of Denis may be made to the Palliative Care Unit the VON or the St. John's Anglican Church, Port Williams. So He wrapped his arms around you, and whispered, "Come to me". You didn't deserve what you went through, so He gave you rest God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best And when I saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain, I could not wish you back to suffer that again.
