William Andrew (Bill) Barbour – age 85, passed away at Evergreen Home for Special Care in Kentville on Sunday, February 10th, 2013. Born in Banff, Scotland on September 25th, 1927, he was the son of the late George and Nellie (Goodfellow) Barbour. At the age of 4, the family sailed on the S.S. Newfoundland to Pier 21 in Halifax, N.S. During his working years, Bill was an Edgerman for various lumber mills in the area. He will be missed by sons William (Vanessa) Barbour of New Ross and Frederick Barbour of Falmouth; daughters Margaret (Norman) Phinney of Aylesford, Charlotte (John) Perry of Berwick and Nellie (Darcy) Leonhard of Berwick; grandchildren Scott, Nathan and Jason Phinney and Jessica Perry. Also by brothers Leonard (Carol) Hughes, Hantsport; John Hughes, Ontario and George Hughes; sisters Evelyn Cains, Scotland, Annie Phillips, Ontario and Elizabeth Raymond, Digby. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Atkinson) in 2000; brother Melvin Hughes and sister Nora Rae. The family would like to thank Valley Regional Hospital and the staff of Evergreen Home for Special Care for all their love, care and support shown to Bill and family. A memorial service will be held at the Falmouth Baptist Church on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 at 11am with Rev. Dennis Leamont officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service from 10-11am at the church. Following the service there will be a reception at the church for those who wish to stay and share memories and stories of Bill with his family. Interment at Falmouth Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill can be made to the Falmouth Baptist Church Cemetery or a charity of one’s choice.
