Obituary of Evelyn Whittier
Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
90, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday April 29, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in 1917, in St. Bernard, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Alma Comeau. Following her marriage, Evelyn lived in the same house on Union Street, Berwick, for 67 years. She was an outstanding cook and baker. Her favourite hobby was preparing and sharing food with her friends and family. The kitchen was the heart of Evelyn's house, and she was the heart of the kitchen. Evelyn loved her church; she was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church for over 60 years, and very active with various church auxiliaries. In the past several years she had resided at Fundy Villa, where she added much to the social life and morale of her neighbours. Evelyn was blessed with many friends, and she loved to both visit with them and play a very keen game of cribbage or garbage with her freshly polished pennies, She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Millard Whittier; son, Alan Whittier; as well as sisters, Azel Hill, Peggy Hebb, Agnes Belliveau; brother, Agnew Comeau. Evelyn is survived by sons, Donald (Judith) Whittier, Middleton; Gary (Jane) Whittier, Berwick; daughter-in-law, Beatrice Whittier, Berwick; grandchildren, Bruce Whittier, Tammy (Tracey Benjamin) Whittier, Shelley Whittier, Carla (Garth) Durno, Nadine Whittier, Erica Whittier, Marc (Natalie Johnston) Whittier; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Jessie, Matthew, Corey, Megan; and the granddogs. The family is most thankful for the care which Evelyn received from staff at Fundy Villa and for the concern and caring shown by all who tended to her at Valley Regional Hospital. Visitation for Mrs. Whittier will take place 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Friday May 2, in the Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Marilyn Rose officiating, assisted by Rev. Elizabeth Johnson. Burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Grand View Manor or to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation.
