ROBERTSON, Thelma Joan - 81, Wolfville, formerly of Truro, passed away January 20, 2010 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Glace Bay September 5, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Johnston and Eva (Howie) Chew. Thelma was a graduate of Acadia University (1949) where she met her future husband, the late Alexander Wishart (Sandy) Robertson. Upon marriage, Thelma and Sandy settled in Truro, where she raised a family of four children. During those years, many happy summers were spent at the family cottage at Brule. After relocating to Caledonia, Queen's Co. for a period in the 1970s, the couple returned to Truro where Thelma embarked on a mid-life career as a library assistant at the Colchester-East Hants Regional Library until her retirement in 1993. At that point, Thelma and Sandy moved to Wolfville where they lived out their retirement years. Thelma was a life member of IODE and served for many years in chapters in Truro and Wolfville. She was also a long-time member of the Canadian Federation of University Women, and actively involved in other community organizations over the years. In 1996, Thelma was inducted into the Acadia University Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Maritime Champion 1948-49 Women's Varsity basketball team. Thelma's quiet strength, good humour and unconditional love will be deeply missed by her daughter Brenda (Wendy Bedingfield), Wolfville; sons Bruce (Terry Sheehy), Bedford; Brian (Sumitra), Toronto; Blair (Nicole), Wolfville; grandchildren Manjulika, Khirode and Tushar Robertson, Toronto; step grandchildren Rachel Bedingfield (Ueli Albert), Wolfville; Jacob and Brady Merrill, Wolfville; Dillon and Jessica Munn, Boiestown; step great-grandchild Oliver Albert, Wolfville; her sister Diana Wieschkowski (Bernie), Port Colborne, ON; and nephew Roy Wieschkowski (Barbara), Kleinberg, ON. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved husband. Thelma passed away at peace, surrounded by loving family. Visitation will be held Friday, January 22nd from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Serenity Chapel, HC Lindsay Funeral Home, Wolfville. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 23rd at 2:00pm at the Greenwich United Church, on Highway 1, west of Wolfville with a reception to follow. Rev. Robyn Brown-Hewitt will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Annapolis Valley Hospice Foundation or Valley Regional Hospital Foundation. Special thanks to Rev. In particular, heartfelt appreciation from the rest of the family is extended to Nicole Robertson for her wonderful care and comfort during Mom's stay in hospital.
