83, Aylesford East, Kings Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 2, 2009, in the Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Morristown, Kings Co. on September 21, 1925, he was a son of the late Charles and Lucy (Ulhman) Hodges. Lawrence had worked for Stuart & Vaughn Nichols for most of his life, hauling fertilizer, hay & apples to several towns throughout the valley and chickens to Newfoundland. He had also operated a mixed farm with his father and brother and had opened graves in the Aylesford & Morristown area most of his life. Lawrence was a long-time member of the Aylesford Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Altee (Lutz) Hodges; children, Sandra (Sam) Graves, Berwick; Douglas Hodges, Patsy Keddy, both of Aylesford; Susan (Chizzie) Reid, Berwick; grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Justin, Samantha, Rebecca & Holly; sister, Jessie (Hardy) Lutz, South Berwick; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Howard in infancy and Ronald (Joyce) Hodges. Visitation for Lawrence will take place 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Saturday in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Funeral service will take place 4 p.m. Sunday, April 5, in the Aylesford Baptist Church, 2543 Hwy # 1. Rev. Clyde Lowe officiating, assisted by Rev. Donald Rafuse. Burial in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aylesford Baptist Church.
