Obituary of Patricia Hynes
Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
76, of Kentville, dearly beloved wife of John Hynes, passed away at home on January 3, 2008. She was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and was educated in that city by the Franciscan Sisters, later graduating from the University of Glasgow with a Master's degree in mathematics and physics. After further training at Notre Dame College in Glasgow, she went on to teach high school in these subjects, but following marriage and the births of her children, willingly gave up her career to stay with her growing family. The family emigrated to Canada in 1964, eventually settling in Kentville. A devout Catholic, Pat was a member of St. Joseph's Church, and in her earlier years much involved in church activities, particularly in the Cursillo movement. She was also a life member of the Women's Hospital Auxillary, serving for many years as it's treasurer. She had been since her college years, keen on Scottish country dancing, and for many years enjoyed dancing with the Wolfville group, until ill health forced her to quieter pursuits. She had many other interests, especially cooking, crafts, and excelled in all of them; but foremost always pride in, devotion to, her family. She is survived by her husband, John; her sons, Peter (Saskatoon), Michael (Calgary), Mark (Ottawa); her daughters, Patricia (Montreal), Rosemary (Oakville, Ont.), and Clare (Oakville, Ont.); 17 grandchildren; two sisters and a brother in Scotland. There will be no visitation for Mrs. Hynes by her family's request. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday January 7, 2008 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kentville with Father Craig Christenson officiating. A private family interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements for Mrs. Hynes are under the care and direction of H.C.
