95, Grand View Manor, Berwick formerly of New Ross, passed away Saturday January 3, 2009 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Kennetcook, N.S. she was a daughter of the late W.C. and Lavina (Clattenburg) MacAskill. Ellamae was the organist for the Parish of New Ross for 67 yrs. She was a life member & co-founder of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 79 auxiliary. She was a life member & co-founder of the New Ross Firemen's auxiliary. She won the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1988. Ellamae was a Sunday School organizer, teacher and provider. She was the ACW treasurer, Synod delegate and accomplished music teacher. She worked for the Kentville Advertiser & Chronicle Herald as a correspondent. She was a book keeper, provincial Exam Invigilator & transcriber of legal deeds. She was a devoted wife of 70 yrs., a loving and caring mother, a well respected worker in church and community, both vital parts of Ellamae's life commitment. She is survived by her son, L. Eugene (Marcie), New Ross; daughters, Marilyn (Bill) Skerry, Miramichi, N.B., K. Elaine Powell, Spryfield, Linda (Roy) Voutier, LochLomond, NL.; brother, Harris (Shirley) New Ross; sisters, Louise Gilliatt, Dartmouth, Effie (Bob) Skalitsky, Sun Prairie, WI., 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband A. Lewis Elliott; brothers, Creelman, Leslie, Jim, Percy, Murray; sisters, Susan Miller, Olla Dalrymple, Annie MacDonald, Bernice Cooper, Jeanette Jones; brother-in-law, Ron Gilliatt. There will be no visitation by the family's request. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday January 8 in the Christ Anglican Church, New Ross, Rev. Gordon Neish and Rev. Canon Russell Elliott officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of H.C. Lindsay Funeral Homes 38 Forties Rd., New Ross (902-689-2961). Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Christ Anglican Church Cemetery Fund, New Ross Fire Department or to the Wagner Unit at Grand View Manor, Berwick.
