83, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, she was a daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Oathwaite) Austin. Elaine was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch # 69, Berwick, where she had been a member of the Dart League and actively involved with the annual poppy campaign. She enjoyed knitting, jigsaw puzzles as well as playing cards and bingo. Elaine's greatest love was spending time and traveling with members of her family. Surviving are sons, Allen, Rexdale, Ont.; Phillip (Gertie), Somerset; daughter, Linda (Fred) Evans, Somerset; grandchildren, Angela, Michael; Kim, Lisa and Cyndi; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Cole, Alexander; Darian, Travis, Mackenzie; Zachary and Cameron; sister, Bernice Martin, Edmonton, Alberta; nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Bob" M. Dryden; brother, Philip Austin. There will be no visitation. Royal Canadian Legion Service for Elaine will take place 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Chaplain Ian S. Robb officiating, with burial in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Poppy Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch # 69, Berwick.
