34, of New Ross, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday October 2, 2009 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Kentville he was the beloved son of Debra & Kevin Veinotte and son of Michael Dykens. Mark maintained a positive attitude throughout his battle with cancer and never complained. His optimism was inspirational to his family and friends. Mark was an avid dart player and never missed his dart nights. He enjoyed putting together model cars. He loved his truck that he built himself, his Dodge. Mark worked hard as a Christmas tree shearer. Mark will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. Besides his parents, Mark is survived by his half brother, Chris Dykens; grandmother, Yvonne Duncan, Avonport; grandparents, Leslie and Myrna Dykens; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Mark was predeceased by his grandfather, Fred Duncan. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday October 4 in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home 38 Forties Rd., New Ross, N.S. (902-689-2961). A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday October 5 in New Ross Baptist Church, Rev. David Hine officiating. Interment will take place in New Ross Baptist Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Legion Hall, New Ross. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Chemotherapy Clinic, Bridgewater, N.S., or the Lodge That Gives.
